Abstract

The study carried out in Bagalkot district of Karnataka regarding entrepreneurial behaviour of pomegranate growers, revealed that majority of the respondents had medium innovativeness (64.16per cent), achievement motivation (80.84per cent), decision making ability (47.50per cent), economic motivation (65.83per cent), risk orientation (85.84per cent) and leadership ability (44.16per cent) and management orientation (62.50per cent).

Abstract

Among different oilseed crops grown in India sunflower occupies an important position next only to groundnut. In Karnataka Haveri district is one of the important sunflower growing areas. Many front line demonstrations were organized in the district to popularize the improved production technologies among the farming community. Hence, this study was conducted to identify the adoption gaps, economics and constraints encountered by the farmers in Haveri district of Karnataka. The study brought to surface that there were many gaps in adoption of recommended practices and the demonstration plot has recorded higher percentage of B: C ratio.

Abstract

Improvement of rainfed farming is key to development of agriculture and removal of poverty. To increase the production and productivity from dry land areas, the Government of India launched NWDPRA in different parts of the country including Karnataka. This was also implemented in Haveri district, demonstrating different soil conservation practices in different villages. Demonstrations were mainly conducted in major crops of the area like sorghum, groundnut, pulses, chillies and cotton. The study was conducted in Kadkol watershed of Karnataka. New crop varieties were introduced along with watershed treatment in different crops. Different soil conservation measures like contour bands, vegetative barriers, rubble check and contour cultivation had given more yields compared to conventional practices with local varieties. The farmers were also convinced to a great extent.

Abstract

The study was carried out in Nashik and Sangli districts of Maharashtra State. The profile analysis of respondents revealed that, they belonged to all the three age groups, all of them had education upto Middle School and above, more than one third of them belonged to small land holding category, majority of them belonged to medium extension participation, to medium risk orientation, medium economic orientation, medium innovativeness and medium to high management orientation. The results indicated that, majority of the respondents had knowledge about pre-production procedure for export, most of them had knowledge about quality production for the grape export and had low knowledge about post harvest practices for export.

Abstract

The Investigation was carried out in the year 2007-2008 to know the suggestions offered by the community based tank management project beneficiary farmers in ten villages of Bidar district. The study revealed that majority (46.66%) of the beneficiary farmers suggested to provide inputs like seeds, fertilizers and pesticides in time, equal importance should be given to all members (43.33%), and entire farm families should be covered (34.0%) involve local people while planning for construction of community tank (32.00%), inclusion of other agro-based income generating enterprises in the programme (30.00%), equal benefits to all the beneficiaries (26.66%), ‘training on management of community tank’ (23.33%), ‘conduct more extension educational activities’ (22.66%), ‘training on proper utilization of community tank for enhancing their income through fish culture’ (21.33%).

Abstract

The study conducted at Haveri district of Karnataka revealed that feed cost was the major expenditure in broiler production, which accounted for nearly 60 per cent of the total cost. The total cost of production for the trained and untrained farmers was Rs. 46.57 and Rs. 54.25, respectively. The cost of feed, total variable cost and total cost was less in case of trained farmers. The total net returns was more than double in case of trained farmers compared to untrained farmers. B:C ratio was also more in case of trained farmers. Both the farmers have faced many constraints in broiler production.

Abstract

Frontline demonstrations on soybean were conducted by KVK with an aim of enhancing the production potential of soybean crop in Haveri district of north Karnataka. The data showed that on an average, frontline demonstration yield was 9.66 q/ha and the average yield increase over local check was to the tune of 28.06. An additional cost of Rs. 1050 was required to produce an additional yield of 2.15 q/ha. The average additional returns and the average IBCR over the years were Rs. 2147.5/ha and 2.02, respectively.

Abstract

The study was conducted in four districts North Karnataka. The research design adopted was ex-post-facto, since the phenomenon has already occurred and is continuing. A structured questionnaire was consisting of various indices, tests and scales to measure the variables. The results revealed that majority (82%) of the private extension personnel were found in ‘medium communication behaviour’ category. Further, majority of the respondents (60%) informed the ‘agriculture problems’ to ‘higher officers’ followed by ‘discussion with fellow workers (50%). Information on ‘extension programmes’ feedback to higher officers was (65%). Maximum feedback was observed in case of ‘sale of inputs’ (70%) which was informed to higher officers.

Abstract

The study conducted in North Karnataka revealed that majority (71%) of the government extension personnel working in Karnataka State Department of Agriculture’ (KSDA) were found in ‘medium information acquisition’ category and about half of the private extension personnel (45%) were in ‘medium information acquisition’ category. Very low percentage of government extension personnel (13%) and private extension personnel (29%) were found in ‘high information acquisition’ category. Further, ‘meetings’ ranked first as the information source consulted by the government extension personnel, where as ‘Consultation with superiors’ ranked first by the private extension personnel.

Abstract

Cotton is a major commercial crop in India, but has substantial problems particularly from extensive pest damage and poor yields. Bt cotton offers a promising solution to these serious problem. It may prove beneficial to know socio-economic characteristics of the Bt cotton cultivators as well as their attitude towards Bt cotton. Generally, it is found that all the farmers residing in the same community do not adopt improved agricultural technology to the same extent. This may be because of several reasons such as personal, economic characters which are related to the adoption of improved agricultural practices. Factors which affect these phenomena are age, education, size of family, size of landholding, annual family income. The results of the study revealed, majority of the respondents was middle aged and more number of farmers had studied upto high school, nearly three fourth of farmers having nuclear family. Majority of the Bt cotton farmers had medium farming experience in Bt cotton with small landholdings. Majority of the Bt cotton farmers belonged to medium annual income.

Abstract

The study was an “expost-facto” research carried out in Belagavi and Haveri districts of Karnataka State during the year 2017- 18. Three taluks were selected from each district based on the highest area. The total sample size was 150. Variables such as age, family size, social participation, scientific orientation, economic motivation were not significantly related with knowledge about IPM practices. Variables such as education, cabbage farming experience, annual income, extension contact and mass media exposure have positive significant relationship at one per cent level of significance. Farm resource base was positively and significantly related with knowledge about IPM practices at 5 per cent level of significance.

Abstract

The study was an “expost-facto” research carried out in Belagavi and Haveri districts of Karnataka State during the year 2017- 18. Three taluks were selected in each district based on the highest area. The total sample size was 150. The results revealed that cent per cent of farmers have correct knowledge about summer ploughing. Most (92.66 %) of the farmers were having high knowledge on regular destruction of damaged plants and 80.00 per cent of farmers have knowledge on spraying of NSKE. Almost all (98.66 %) the farmers having knowledge about using chemical for control of diamond black moth. The overall knowledge of farmers about IPM practices in cabbage showed that 51.33 per cent of the respondents belonged to medium level of knowledge about IPM practices in cabbage followed by low (28.66 %) and high (20.00%). The probable reasons might be that less education level, lack of training, non-utilization of mass media and less extension contact. So there is a great scope to design more number of skill trainings, demonstration and exposure visits by the development departments.
